french onion soup a la crockpot

Last night I told my husband to look up some crockpot recipes for me. I had to wait around all day for Verizon service people so I thought I'd make dinner. He found me Sandra Lee's french onion soup recipe for the crockpot. We just finished dinner and it was really yummy. I'm surprised because most of the time we laugh at Sandra Lee and her "cooking" ideas. This was not a salty french onion soup! The first time I ever made the stuff it was a different recipe and very salty. ew **my changes** I used three huge sweet onions Safeway brand beef broth, it wasnt low sodium some other companys onion dip mix I broke my bread slice into small pieces so you could eat it easier we layered on the cheese, I doubt it was just 2 tablespoons a bowl :) French Onion Soup 5 small onions, thinly sliced 2 cans (14 ounces) low sodium beef broth (recommended: Swanson's) 2 cans (10 ounces) beef consomme (recommended: Campbell's) 1 packet onion soup mix (recommended: Lipton

Christmas Eve appetizer

So we dont host either of the Christmas dinner events. My sister-in-law does Christmas Eve. I asked her what we could bring and she said appetizers. My husband made hot artichoke dip and I made Paula Deen's glazed nuts over brie. It was quite a hit! ***I used crushed macadamia nuts and I did red and green apples and crackers, no pears*** Sugar and Nut Glazed Brie Recipe courtesy Paula Deen 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup chopped macadamia nuts or pecans 1 tablespoon brandy (get the mini bar type bottle) 1 (14-ounce) round brie Apple wedges, for serving Pear wedges, for serving 2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice Crackers, for serving In a small bowl stir together the sugar, nuts, and brandy. Cover and chill for at least 24 hours or up to 1 week. Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. Place the brie on an ovenproof platter or pie plate. Bake for 4 or 5 minutes or until the brie is slightly softened. Spread the sugar mixture in an even layer on top of the warm brie and bake for 2 to 3 minu

puffins and BWs

I love eating Puffins Peanut Butter cereal! I eat it dry as a snack. It's an all natural food. I am SUPER CRAVING Buffalo Wild Wings. I want boneless chicken with spicy garlic sauce and buffalo chips with cheese. I desperately wanted some last night but husband was sick and wanted to go home. Its really hard to get Buffalo Wild Wings in MD. THere are only 3 locations in the state and none are near us. In Columbus OH they were everywhere! **edit 2009** There is a BWs coming to Rockville Town Center and it'll be so close to our house. Yay!**

7 layer salad bars

I needed a quick baby shower food for today. I think a nestie recommended this recipe. Its from Pampered Chef originally. It was yummy and it is all gone! It did not last more than a few hours. *I used both shredded cheddar cheese and parmesan cheese on my salad bars! Seven Layer Salad Squares Pampered Chef Ingredients 2 (8 oz) pkgs refrigerated crescent dinner rolls 8 oz cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup miracle whip 1 clove garlic, minced 6 slices bacon, crisply cooked, drained and crumbled divided 1 cup frozen peas, thawed, divided 1 tomato, sliced shredded lettuce 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese 1/2 cup coarsely chopped red onion Directions 1) Preheat oven to 375° F. 2) Unroll one pkg dough across one end of a bar pan with longest sides of dough across width of pan. 3) Repeat with remaining package of dough to fill the pan. 4) Using rolling pin or your fingers seal seams and press up sides to form crust. 5) Bake 12-15 min until golden brown. 100 calorie pack

I just tried the Keebler 100 Calorie pack with the fudge stripe cookies. It was SOOO good. They were on sale at Target when you buy 2. I bought two of the fudge stripes :) one for work and one for home snacking!

Tortilla Roll Ups

I made some tortilla rollups for an appetizer today, Labor Day 8 ounces cream cheese 1 cup sour cream 1 can black beans, drained and rinsed 1 small can of chopped green chilis, drained 1 packet of ranch dressing mix (I chose one that did not say buttermilk) a handful of shredded cheddar cheese also some chopped red pepper though I'd eliminate it next time just because it was the only crunchy thing in the roll ups and to me texturally it'd be better without. I mixed all those ingredients together, spread a thin layer over a tortilla, and rolled them up, stored in a tupperware over night, and cut them into 1 inch pieces the next day. Serve with salsa

Wegmans

DH and I took a road trip to Wegmans this morning (before noon is a must). It was busy even though it wasnt lunchtime yet. Here are some fun things we bought Apple danish with streusel topping- delish We bought some things for dinner 1 package of blue cheese burgers 1 package of cheddar and bacon burgers shitake mushrooms, saute in butter for the burgers french style green beans, I think I'm going to make garlicy beans potatoes for oven fries DH bought a sandwich for lunch and didnt share a bite! I bought some Kettle CHips in the new Buffalo Blue flavor. I love buffalo sauce and blue cheese. I was disappointed that they just taste like regular BBQ chips :( We also bought some Jalapeno cheese bread, a whole loaf. It smells wonderful but I dont know what I'm going to use it for... We bought some asiago artichoke dip that was so creamy and good! We put it on some bread toasts. I showed major restraint and only have about 3 toasts before putting it away

Bobby Vans review

I went to Bobby Vans Grill yesterday for the restaurant week lunch. It was so freaking hot in DC our group was dying when we got there. They were busy but we had a reservation so we were seated right away. They have really great service, waters always filled, bread and butter was filled twice. I ordered the caesar salad, steak entree, and chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. I LOVED the steak. If you ever go, please get steak! It is a steakhouse afterall. It had a wine reduction that was part of the reason the steak was so so yummy. DH had the portabello sandwich and said it was good but there was a lot of zuchinni on the sandwich and you couldnt taste the meaty portabello very well. The sandwich also had some sauce and cheese. He still ate every bite and liked it, but maybe wasnt his favorite portabello sandwich he's ever had. My nephew got the 10 ounce burger. They brought him one with cheese even though he asked for a hamburger. They took it away and brought a regular hamburger

Subway sucks

I had teacher training today and we all went out together for lunch. We all went to Subway. I got an italian BMT. I really just dont like Subway at all. It doesnt taste fresh even though the logo is "eat fresh." I even toasted my sub to try to make it seem yummy. I just like the sun chips and cookies. Luckily tomorrow I'll be eating somewhere else because I'll be at a different school at lunchtime. PS If you are one of those people who are looking for food blogs that only post recipes and personal photography of recipes this isnt the blog you should be bothering to read. Not all food blogs should be exactly the same.

Highly Recommend

I got a Panera strawberry smoothie today. Its about 100 degrees today. Oh man I'm glad I got the large because it was really really good. Its supposed to be low fat too. I also got cheddar broccoli soup, not supposed to be low fat, but good.

Dinning out breakfast and lunch

Sister-in-law called and wanted to meet up for bagel breakfast. I got a dutch apple bagel with light cream cheese. The top half of the bagel has yummy stuff, the bottom half is plain and that sort of sucked. I had to go to the bank which is next to the California Tortilla. I've been once before and I didnt like the burrito I got. It was too spicy and I dont think I like blackened chicken. Its just too crispy, ew. Today I got the Crunchy BBQ Ranch burrito! Its super good :)

Fiber One bars and a comment on dinner

These are one of my favorite snacks and they solve a chocolate craving which I've been having just about every day! I had a mexican casserole for dinner, its leftover from days ago, I think its a Paula Deen recipe but I am having no luck finding it anywhere online. I felt like it was really bland. It had ground meat, corn tortillas, cheese, and a little bit of other stuff. I feel like it needed spicing up, badly!

Lunch Today

Here is my completely store bought meal! Put about 4-5 of these buffalo chicken nuggets in the oven or toaster oven Microwave a flour tortilla Put lettuce on the tortilla, then the nuggets, pour on some wing sauce, and then some light blue cheese dressing. Wrap up the tortilla and eat! This is what I washed down my spicy lunch with Turkey Hill's diet iced tea with honey and ginseng! I can polish off a gallon jug of this stuff easily in a matter of days. Its so good
